Cannabis Kief and its history
Numerous stories, legends, and myths surround hashish. Whether it’s the hashish eater from the Arabian Nights, Sheikh Haydar, the founder of the Sufi order, who credited hashish for his happiness and had himself buried surrounded by cannabis plants, or the mysterious assassins who are said to have consumed hashish before carrying out their deadly missions – the actual origins of hashish are difficult to trace, but probably begin around 900 AD in the Middle East. There, the drug was used primarily for spiritual and medicinal purposes.
In the 1960s and 70s, cannabis in general experienced its major boom in the Western world, especially in the USA. It became a symbol of counterculture and freedom, especially among hippies who advocated peace and love. Just think of the legendary Woodstock festival, where a block or two of hashish was surely passed around.
